Volunteer Facilitator Role

At Jeff’s Place, our volunteer facilitators play an essential role in supporting grieving children, teens, and families. They bring their time, compassion, and presence to create spaces where people can feel and heal together.

Our volunteers serve as group facilitators alongside our clinical team. Each group is facilitated by a clinician and a volunteer. Each facilitator is carefully screened, trained, and supervised to help lead small groups, offering both structure and support as participants navigate their grief.

In our groups that support young children and teens who are grieving, volunteer facilitators might read stories, play games, or create art, helping them build connection and remind them they are not alone in their loss. In caregiver groups, a facilitator brings their warm presence, a listening ear, and compassionate understanding. Through their care and consistency, our volunteers make a meaningful difference in every session.

Volunteer Commitment

Our support groups typically meet twice per month. For our evening groups, facilitators are asked to be at Jeff’s Place from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. For our afternoon groups, facilitators are asked to be at Jeff’s Place from 3:30pm to 6:15pm. Each facilitator is asked to participate in one  evening or afternoon group, determined on need, fit, and availability. Our support groups run September through June. Facilitators have no group obligations in July and August. We ask for at least one year commitment (although most volunteers stay for years!)
